Phone and internet packages

Afghanistan's mobile networks, their mobile money, and the short codes for checking your balance and buying internet packages. Packages and prices change every few weeks, so the networks' own codes are the place to compare them.

The networks

  • Roshan, with M-Paisa mobile money
  • AWCC (Afghan Wireless), with My Money
  • Etisalat, with mHawala (*711#)
  • MTN, now operating under a new name after its sale
  • Salaam, the state-owned network

Short codes

As reported in 2025; codes can change, and the network's help line can confirm. - Balance: Roshan *444#, AWCC *444#, Etisalat *123#, MTN *310#, Salaam *888# - Internet packages: AWCC *255#, Etisalat *888#; on the others, the balance menu leads to packages

Choosing a network

  1. Ask neighbours which network works best in your area: coverage varies a lot outside the cities.
  2. Compare a month of internet on each: prices for the same amount of data can differ by half.
  3. A SIM card needs your tazkira.
