Kankor

The Kankor is the national university entrance exam, run by the National Examination Authority. Your score and your list of chosen faculties decide where you can study.

The year's rhythm

  • Registration: in winter, through your school. For 1405 the deadline was 30 Jadi (20 January 2026), with late registrations accepted in Kabul until 5 Sawr. The fee was reported as 400 afghanis.
  • The exam: in spring, province by province. In 1405 it began on 21 Sawr (11 May 2026) in fifteen provinces and ended in Kabul in June.
  • Results: announced by the National Examination Authority some weeks after the last round.

How to prepare

  1. Ask your school's office about registration as soon as the year turns to winter.
  2. Choose your faculties carefully: the order you list them in matters.
  3. Practise with past papers; many are shared in Kankor preparation courses and online.
  4. Bring your tazkira and admission card on the day.

Since 2022, girls have not been allowed to sit the Kankor, as girls above the sixth grade have not been allowed in school. Religious schools (madrasas) have their own entrance exam, registered alongside the Kankor.
