Job Summaries
The Project Focal Point will be responsible for the overall day-to-day coordination, technical facilitation, implementation, monitoring and documentation of the VITOL Youth Preparedness Project.
The position will ensure that project activities are implemented according to the approved concept, workplan, budget, Girl Shine approach, AFGA policies and relevant safeguarding, protection, SRHR and emergency preparedness standards.
The Project Focal Point will also serve as the main link between AFGA management, the external consultant, mentors, adolescent girls, provincial/service delivery point teams and relevant technical/support departments.
Key responsibilities
- Project coordination: Develop and monitor the workplan, activity schedule, implementation tracker, and coordinate with AFGA departments and provincial/SDP teams.
- Needs assessment & contextualization: Coordinate the external consultant and support the adaptation/finalization of the Girl Shine curriculum based on adolescent girls’ needs and the local context.
- Mentor recruitment & training: Coordinate recruitment of mentors and organize their orientation and capacity-building.
- Youth preparedness: Coordinate development of youth response action plans and support the review/update of plan from an adolescent/youth perspective.
- Curriculum implementation: Coordinate identification and mobilization of targeted adolescent girls, oversee Girl Shine sessions, and ensure safe and quality delivery through trained mentors.
- Referral mechanisms: Establish/validate referral pathways and ensure mentors understand appropriate referral procedures.
- Monitoring & supervision: Conduct field monitoring, follow up with mentors and SDPs, track progress against targets, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions.
- MHM support: Coordinate distribution of MHM kits to participants.
- Reporting & documentation: Maintain attendance, activity, monitoring, training, distribution and other project records and provide inputs for regular and donor reports.
- Budget monitoring: Coordinate activity-level requirements with Finance, Procurement and Logistics and monitor implementation against the approved budget.
- Safeguarding: Ensure confidentiality, protection, safeguarding, safe participation and appropriate consent/assent procedures for adolescent girls.
- Stakeholder coordination: Maintain regular communication with AFGA management, technical teams, mentors, provincial offices, SDPs and relevant stakeholders.

- University degree in MD, public health, psychology; Master degree is an asset.
- At least five years of relevant experience in adolescent girls, protection, health, psychosocial well-being or humanitarian programming.
- Demonstrated experience conducting safe consultations with adolescent girls and adapting curricula or structured group activities.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, informed consent and assent, confidentiality, inclusion and safe referral.
- Fluency in Dari, Pashto and English are strongly preferred.

Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world
