Job Summary
The PSS Counsellor (Female) will provide individual, group, and family psychosocial counselling to women, girls, and their families affected by displacement, gender-based violence, and restrictive social conditions. The incumbent will work alongside GSRO's existing Male PSS Counsellor, M&E Officer, and Livelihood Training Specialists to deliver co-located counselling at production and distribution sites, and to extend coverage to additional highly vulnerable individuals identified through community outreach and referral.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver individual, group, and family psychosocial counselling sessions to women, girls, and families in line with GSRO's MHPSS approach and survivor-centred principles.
- Conduct intake, risk screening, and case documentation for all clients, maintaining strict confidentiality in line with GSRO's Data Protection Policy.
- Identify and refer cases requiring specialized protection, medical, or legal support through GSRO's established referral pathways.
- Co-locate and coordinate PSS sessions with goat and confectionary livelihood activities to reach beneficiaries efficiently and reduce travel burden on clients.
- Participate in outreach to identify additional highly vulnerable individuals beyond the livelihood caseload who require psychosocial support.
- Maintain accurate attendance sheets, session records, and reporting inputs for GSRO's M&E system.
- Complete PSEA, Code of Conduct, and Data Protection induction, and apply these standards consistently in all client interactions.
- Coordinate Mahram arrangements for fieldwork and travel in line with GSRO's Mahram Guideline (Annex 26).
- Participate in regular case-review and supervision meetings with the Program Manager and the wider protection team.

Education:Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, MHPSS, or a related field; a Master's degree is an advantage.
Experience:Minimum 2 years of experience delivering individual, group, or family psychosocial counselling, preferably with an NGO or INGO in Afghanistan. Experience working with women and children affected by displacement, gender-based violence, or protection concerns is an asset.
Skills:Sound understanding of PSEA, GBV Guiding Principles (safety, confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination), case management, and referral pathways; strong interpersonal and active-listening skills; ability to maintain accurate and confidential case records; basic computer literacy.
Languages:Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is required; basic working knowledge of English is preferred.
Other:This position is open to female candidates only, given the nature of direct engagement with female beneficiaries. Willingness to travel to field sites in Gozara District and Jibraeil/PD#13, and to work with a Mahram as required under GSRO policy, is required.

Green Social Research Organization (GSRO) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan under registration number 3612. Based in Herat Province, GSRO has been at the forefront of driving positive change since 2015, primarily focusing on climate change initiatives, agriculture, and livelihood projects across Herat province, with programming that also extends to protection, psychosocial support.
GSRO has extensive experience implementing projects funded by UN Women, UNDP, and other international partners, and works in close coordination with local authorities and community structures to ensure context-appropriate, ethical, and effective programming.
This position is part of a UN Women funded project aimed at strengthening community wellbeing, protection outcomes, and household resilience in selected districts of Herat City.
