Before you apply
Papers to prepare early
- Your tazkira and a passport: many programmes ask for a passport number when you apply, and a passport takes weeks. See passport.
- School and university transcripts and certificates, translated into English by a sworn translator.
- A statement of purpose: one page on what you want to study, why, and what you will do with it.
- Two letters of recommendation: ask teachers or employers a month before the deadline.
Languages
Many programmes ask for an English test (IELTS or TOEFL; some accept Duolingo). Türkiye, Kazakhstan, China and Korea teach a year of their own language first. Check what each one accepts on its official site.
Studying from home
Online degrees (the Indian ICCR places, the American University of Afghanistan's online programmes, and University of the People, which has a fund for Afghan women) need a steady internet connection and a computer or a good phone.
A real scholarship never asks you to pay for a place. Agents who promise one for a fee are a common fraud.
