Registration and getting ready
Two calendars
- Cold provinces, including Kabul: the year starts in Hamal (1405 began on 6 Hamal), the annual exams are in late Aqrab and early Qaws, and the long holiday is the winter, until the next Hamal.
- Warm provinces: Kandahar, Helmand, Nimroz, Farah, Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar, and in some reports Paktia, Paktika and Khost. The year starts in Sunbula (15 Sunbula in 1403 and 1405), classes end in late Sawr, the exams start on 1 Jawza, and the long holiday is the summer.
Registration
New pupils register at the nearest school before the year starts, with a tazkira (the child's or a parent's). Ask the school office for its dates: the Ministry of Education announces them each year.
Unfortunately, since 2022, girls above the sixth grade have not been allowed to attend school. Primary schools, up to grade six, are open to girls and boys.
