Driving licence

A driving licence is issued by the traffic department of the police in each province. The steps are the same everywhere; the fees depend on the vehicle.

What you need

  • Your tazkira or passport
  • Two passport photos
  • A medical certificate of fitness (eyesight and general health)
  • The application form, filled in and signed

Steps

  1. Go to the traffic department in your province and submit the documents.
  2. Have the medical check if you do not already have the certificate.
  3. Pay the fee at the bank named on your invoice.
  4. Take the written test on traffic rules and road signs.
  5. Take the driving test.
  6. Collect the licence on the date you are given.

Fees

Different for a motorcycle, a car and a heavy vehicle. Ask at the traffic department: the figures published online are not reliable enough to repeat.

A licence bought without the tests is not a licence. Learn the rules: roads in Afghanistan are among the most dangerous in the region.
