Airlines
Booking and travelling
The airlines
- Kam Air and Ariana Afghan Airlines, the two Afghan airlines, carry most passengers, abroad and between Afghan cities. Their booking numbers are above.
- flydubai and Etihad fly from Kabul to Dubai and Abu Dhabi twice a day each, and Turkish Airlines daily to Istanbul. Mahan Air, Meraj and Varesh fly to Tehran.
- Neither Afghan airline may fly to the European Union or the United States; many travellers change planes in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Istanbul.
Inside the country
Kabul is linked with Herat, Mazar-i-Sharif and Kandahar. Flights between cities save a long and sometimes dangerous road journey: see roads and passes.
Booking
- Book on the airline's own website or at its office; travel agents in Kabul also sell tickets.
- Check whether your destination needs a visa before you pay: see visas.
- Arrive at Kabul airport early: security checks begin before the terminal.
